What are the benefits of incorporating the Ki System in my crops?

  • Less chemicals, more savings: Reduces the use of herbicides and fertilizers,
  • Efficient pasture managementControls unwanted weeds in a natural way.
  • Reduction of operating costsGenerates savings in labor, fuel, among others,
  • Business diversificationIntegrates livestock and fruit production by incorporating a new business in the same productive property,
  • Valorization of the productionIt allows the production of an ecological product, especially valued in sophisticated markets.

These benefits can not only be combined, but also enhance each other, generating a positive impact on the efficiency and profitability of the farm.

Does the Ki System prevent fruit tree browsing?

The Ki System is designed to control browsing of low branches in fruit production. The effectiveness of the system depends on the existence of sufficient pasture supply so that the animals can satisfy their nutritional needs and are not attracted to eat the crops. It also depends on the good adjustment of the muzzle, a subject on which we advise and support from our technical department. We do not recommend the use of the Ki system if the crop is in its early vegetative stages.

Can I use the Ki System in any fruit crop?

Yes, the Ki System is effective in preventing sheep or goats from browsing and other damage to fruit trees from head height upwards. This protects the crop and allows sheep to feed on weeds below this height. As a reference, this height should exceed one meter, depending on the breed and category of the animals.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us and we will advise you.

How much pasture do I need to have to use animals in the crop?

The Ki System is specially designed for grazing sheep and/or goats in fruit orchards. For the system to be efficient, it is important to have a supply of pasture between and under the crops, to ensure the availability of food for the animals.

In case of low pasture supply, animals will seek to satiate their hunger in some way, which could cause crop damage.

Do you have various sizes of Ki muzzles?

Ki muzzles come in one size only, but have a 4-point adjustable has a harness with 4 points of variable adjustment to adapt it to the different sizes and morphologies of the different breeds.

Are they suitable for all breeds of sheep or goats?

Yes, Ki muzzles have been tested on various breeds of sheep and goats as they are adaptable thanks to their 4 adjustment points.

If you have doubts about a specific breed, contact us and we will advise you.

Can they be used in other animals?

They are ideal for sheep and goats, and are recommended for use from 3 months of age.

For now, they are designed for sheep and goats. However, we are developing new products for other animals that will be available soon.

Do Ki muzzles come with a warranty?

Yes, we offer warranty against manufacturing defects. If you have any problem with the product, please contact us to solve it.

I have never used a muzzle, is it easy to fit?

Yes! When you purchase Ki muzzles, you will receive a user manual and technical specifications along with explanatory videos that will guide you to have a very good experience of use. In addition, our technical and commercial team will always be ready to support you in the process of learning and implementing the Ki System.

Can animals wear Ki muzzles at all times or must they be removed at some point during the day?

Muzzles can be left in place permanently, they do not need to be removed and put on overnight.

However, this depends on how you handle the animals. If you confine the animals, the muzzles must be adjusted and checked that they are well placed before sending them out to pasture again. If you leave the sheep or goats in the field, it is not necessary. We recommend checking every two or three days that the muzzles are tight and that they do not hurt the sheep or goat due to poor fit.

You can consider using the Ki System all year round. In crops such as citrus or avocado, growers usually leave them on all year round. In other crops such as deciduous crops, there are growers who remove the muzzles for the period when the trees are leafless.

How do I clean and maintain the muzzles in good condition?

Ki muzzles are designed to be durable, but it is important to clean them with mild soap and water, especially if they accumulate dirt or manure. Store them in a dry place when not in use.

The material of the Ki muzzles corresponds to those of standard agricultural use. Estimated useful life is approximately 4 years depending on use.

How many animals can I place per hectare?

This depends on climate, region and grazing management and the existing pasture supply.

For reference, en the Pampean biome (the extensive plains or grasslands located in central-eastern Argentina, part of Uruguay and southern Brazil), it is estimated that one sheep or goat consumes 6 to 8 m² of pasture per day.

Considering this and the different experiences of fruit producers, 6 to 10 animals per hectare (low density) and up to 70 animals per hectare (high density) are usually used. This number depends a lot on the management of the animals. the availability of labor and the availability of labor and the type of business preferred for the sheep, and the. For example, if rational grazing is carried out, you can increase the number of animals per hectare significantly.

How can I generate additional income to fruit farming with animals?

The incorporation of the Ki System allows additional income to fruit producers through the incorporation of a “second productive floor” with sheep or goat livestock. Livestock allows diversification of income on the same plot of land, making it possible to obtain income from the fattening of sheep or goats, the sale of offspring, wool and/or other by-products (such as milk and cheese, for example).

Several experiences of producers have managed to combine and develop silvopastoralism in fruit plantations by incorporating animals to their farms or making alliances between livestock producers that allow the sharing of benefits between livestock and fruit growers in nearby areas.

What do I do if my certification does not allow animals on the property?

There are certifications that accept, value and promote the use of animals in fruit plantations. Find out which one best suits your needs and markets.

The introduction of the Ki System and regenerative soil management are benchmarks for Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) that simultaneously benefit people and nature.

What do I do if an animal seems uncomfortable with the muzzle?

Check the adjustment points to make sure that the Ki muzzle is not too tight or loose. It is important to make sure that the Ki muzzle is correctly fitted following the user manuals and specifications provided by Ki.

The muzzle was designed with animal welfare and care in mind, minimizing any interference with feeding and behavior.
